Welcome to the Goonawarra Primary School's webpage. I trust that you will find our webpage both informative and a helpful avenue through which to learn about the school.

Goonawarra is nestled on the southern outskirts of Sunbury adjacent to the Rolling Meadows estate. It is a vibrant community which features the school, a health centre, a neighbourhood house, a very active kindergarten, a community hall, medical centre, pharmacy and a group of specialty shops, food outlets and sporting facilities.

The school, which has an enrolment of 290 students, plays a major role within the community being the hub and meeting point for many people within the area.

Major building works totalling $3 million were undertaken in 2011, which consist of six new classrooms and open learning areas, has greatly enhanced the existing facilities available at the school. These include spacious well equipped classrooms, a gymnasium, a well stocked library and a well resourced computer (ICT) room. The majority of classrooms have their own interactive whiteboard which are being extensively used to enhance educational learning opportunities for students. The current ratio of one computer per every three students continues to improve with the aim of obtaining a one to one ratio in certain areas of the school in the near future.

Planning for this year includes a wide range of stimulating, challenging and exciting curriculum content provided to the students focused on equipping them to be articulate, numerate, inquisitive learners and lifelong seekers of knowledge.

The core values of the school, which are encapsulated in the phrase ‘Goonawarra is G.R.E.A.T!’ include being Generous, Responsible, Enthusiastic, Ambitious and Trustworthy. These are designed to encourage students to achieve their best in all areas and to be positive, well respected and thoughtful members of our community.

The school is extremely well supported by a vibrant and proactive Parents and Friends group as well as a progressive and committed School Council.

Both Before and After School Care programs are offered on every school day. These are accredited programs and are operated and staffed by Extend, a business who run many out of school hours programs in the wider community.

The school has recently completed a comprehensive review of a wide range of areas associated with life at school using data from the last three years. A new clear and decisive strategic plan with goals and improvement targets covering the next three years is the outcome of the review. This has been developed and is now in place. It will guide and direct the school into the future.

The school is very well equipped and resourced to be a leader in developing children, academically, socially, physically and emotionally.

I encourage you, if you are already associated with the school, to become increasingly involved in the life of the school, and if you are curious about learning more about the school, then phone the office on (03) 9744 7137 to arrange a tour.

Be part of a progressive future at Goonawarra!

Regards
