Chaplaincy & Student Welfare Services

Chaplaincy & Student Welfare Services at Goonawarra PS

Goonawarra PS is fortunate to have two dedicated staff members specifically addressing welfare needs throughout the school community.

Ben Smith is our school chaplain. Student engagement in this Program is of a voluntary nature.

Mrs Michele Pinti is our Primary Welfare Officer. This is a funded DEECD (Education Department) position for Goonawarra. The funding allows Michele to be replaced in her classroom for two days per week.

Both Ben and Michele work as an integral part of our Wellbeing Team. Together they offer individual support to our students, staff and parents, they plan and implement wellbeing programs across the curriculum and they participate in a broad range of school coordinated activities such as school excursions, camps, sporting events and assemblies.  They care for students as well as endeavouring to develop their social skills and responsible behaviour.

School Council will periodically seek feedback from our school community in order to enable us to review and confirm support for both these positions.  The Chaplaincy program also has a risk management plan which is reviewed annually. School procedures are followed for parents and students to access these valuable services.
